The community combines newer luxury homes, resort-style amenities, Prosper ISD, convenient access to Frisco and the Dallas North Tollway, and a more established feel than some of the brand-new communities developing farther north.
I’m Jake Inderman, a Prosper TX Realtor and North Texas real estate agent helping relocation buyers compare communities throughout Prosper, Celina, Frisco, and the surrounding North Texas suburbs.
If you’re considering living in Star Trail, here’s what you should know about the homes, builders, amenities, HOA, property taxes, schools, location, and overall lifestyle.

Star Trail is located in Prosper, Texas, just west of the Dallas North Tollway.
Location is one of the community’s biggest advantages.
From Star Trail, you’re roughly:
For buyers relocating to North Texas, this location creates an interesting balance.
You can get the quieter, more upscale suburban environment many buyers want from Prosper without feeling completely disconnected from Frisco, Plano, shopping, dining, entertainment, and employment centers farther south.
Of course, North Texas commute times can change dramatically with traffic. If you’ll be commuting regularly, test your route during the actual hours you’d be driving.
One of the first things you’ll notice driving through Star Trail is the overall appearance of the community.
The landscaping, architecture, common areas, and design standards create an upscale feel throughout the neighborhood.
Homes aren’t identical, but there’s enough consistency in the architectural standards that the neighborhood feels cohesive.
You’ll commonly see architectural styles such as:
Inside the homes, you’ll frequently find large kitchens, tall ceilings, open-concept layouts, dedicated offices, multiple living areas, and finishes you’d expect at this price point.
For buyers who want luxury without feeling like they’re living directly in the middle of a major city, Star Trail offers an attractive combination.
Star Trail was zoned to Prosper ISD at the time of this community tour.
The schools referenced in my tour included:
School boundaries can change as Prosper and surrounding North Texas communities continue growing, so buyers should always verify the current school assignments for a specific address directly with Prosper ISD.
Don’t purchase a home based solely on school information from an old listing, video, or builder brochure.
Prosper ISD is one of the reasons many relocation buyers initially start researching homes in Prosper.
But I always recommend looking beyond the school district name and evaluating the exact home, community, commute, taxes, and lifestyle as part of the decision.
Star Trail began developing around 2018, which creates an interesting housing market for buyers.
You’re not limited exclusively to brand-new construction.
Depending on current inventory, you may be able to choose between:
That can be a major advantage compared with a community in its earliest development phase.
You can see what much of Star Trail actually looks like instead of relying entirely on renderings and future plans.
At the time of my tour, homes started around the mid-$700,000s and extended beyond $2 million depending on the lot, builder, size, and customization.
Those prices should be treated as a snapshot from the time of filming. Current Star Trail home prices and builder availability can change.
At the time of my tour, homes below approximately $900,000 tended to be harder to find and could attract more buyer attention.
That makes sense when you consider the broader range of homes available in Star Trail.
If you’re trying to enter the community toward the lower end of its price range, your options may be more limited than someone shopping well above $1 million.
For relocation buyers, this is where having a plan before visiting homes becomes important.
Know your:
Then you can determine whether a particular Star Trail home is genuinely a good fit rather than simply reacting to a beautiful house.
Star Trail has featured several well-known North Texas builders.
Builders referenced in my community tour included:
The builder can significantly affect the type of home you’re getting.
Different builders may offer different lot sizes, floor plans, customization levels, standard features, design options, and price points.
If you’re purchasing new construction, don’t compare homes solely by square footage.
A similarly sized home from two different builders can provide a completely different experience.
Star Trail is primarily geared toward buyers looking for an upscale residential environment.
Many of the homes feature the characteristics relocation buyers frequently request in Prosper:
Large kitchens.
Tall ceilings.
Open living areas.
Dedicated offices.
Multiple bedrooms.
Large primary suites.
Game and media rooms.
Outdoor living.
Larger garages.
But don’t assume the biggest house is automatically the best house.
Functional square footage matters more than the number printed on the listing.
A well-designed 3,500-square-foot home can work better for your household than a poorly configured 4,200-square-foot home.
Amenities are one of the major reasons buyers consider Star Trail.
At the time of my community tour, amenities included:
For households that actually use community amenities, this can add a lot of value to living in Star Trail.
Instead of driving somewhere every time you want to swim, walk, play pickleball, or spend time outside, you have recreational options within the community.
The lifestyle extends beyond physical amenities.
Star Trail has also offered community activities such as neighborhood events, food trucks, and seasonal markets.
For someone relocating from another state, that can be an underrated benefit.
One concern I hear from relocation buyers is:
“How do we actually meet people after we move?”
Living in a community with active common areas and neighborhood events can make it easier to get outside, meet neighbors, and develop a sense of community.
At the time of my tour, I referenced Star Trail HOA dues at approximately $1,300 per year.
That worked out to a little over $100 per month.
The HOA helps support the community amenities and maintenance of common areas.
For the number of amenities available, I considered that relatively reasonable compared with some other Prosper master-planned communities.
However, HOA dues and coverage can change.
Before purchasing a specific Star Trail home, review the current HOA documents, dues, restrictions, and what is actually included.
Property taxes are another important part of the monthly payment.
In this particular community overview, I referenced a tax rate of approximately 2.4%.
Buyers should verify the current rate for the exact property they’re considering because tax rates can vary and change over time.
This is especially important for someone moving to Texas from another state.
Texas doesn’t have a state individual income tax, but property taxes can be considerably higher than what some relocation buyers are accustomed to.
Don’t compare homes using purchase price alone.
Compare the total monthly cost.
This is where buyers need to look beyond the listing price.
Your true housing cost can include:
Two $900,000 homes in different North Texas communities can have noticeably different monthly payments.
That’s why I recommend comparing communities based on total ownership costs rather than simply asking which one has cheaper homes.
One advantage of Star Trail’s Prosper location is that you aren’t far from established shopping and dining.
Gates of Prosper provides nearby options for everyday shopping, restaurants, groceries, and services.
You’re also close enough to Frisco that you have access to a much larger selection of restaurants, retail, entertainment, and employment.
This is one of the biggest differences between Prosper and some communities farther north.
You can still get the quieter suburban environment while remaining relatively close to established conveniences.
PGA Frisco is another major destination nearby.
The PGA of America headquarters, golf, Omni PGA Frisco Resort, dining, entertainment, and events have turned this area of North Frisco into a significant destination.
Even if you don’t play golf, the continued commercial and entertainment development around PGA Frisco adds another nearby amenity for Star Trail residents.
Star Trail is only a few minutes west of the Dallas North Tollway.
For buyers who need to commute south toward Frisco, Plano, or Dallas, that access can be extremely valuable.
The Tollway corridor is also continuing to expand northward as development progresses toward Celina.
For someone trying to balance a Prosper lifestyle with access to major North Texas employment centers, Star Trail’s location is one of its strongest selling points.
This is a comparison I’d encourage many relocation buyers to make.
Move farther north into Celina and you may find:
But you may also encounter:
Star Trail gives you a more established Prosper location while still providing relatively newer luxury homes.
Frisco puts you closer to major employment, shopping, dining, entertainment, PGA Frisco, Fields of Frisco, and the Dallas North Tollway.
Star Trail gives you a Prosper address while keeping much of Frisco relatively close.
The right choice comes down to how much you value:
There isn’t one answer that’s right for everyone.
Windsong Ranch is another Prosper community relocation buyers frequently compare with Star Trail.
Windsong Ranch is particularly known for its extensive amenities and Crystal Lagoon.
Star Trail offers its own resort-style pools, trails, courts, clubhouse, events, and luxury housing options.
If you’re comparing the two, I’d look beyond which community has the flashier amenity package.
Compare:
The house you actually purchase matters more than which neighborhood wins on a generic “best community” list.
Star Trail may be worth considering if you’re looking for:
It can be particularly attractive for relocation buyers who want a high-end master-planned community but don’t want to move as far north as some of Celina’s developing neighborhoods.
Star Trail won’t be right for every buyer.
You may want to compare other communities if:
Those aren’t necessarily negatives about Star Trail.
They’re simply reasons another North Texas community could be a better fit.
Star Trail is located in Prosper, Texas, just west of the Dallas North Tollway and relatively close to Frisco.
Star Trail was zoned to Prosper ISD at the time of my tour. Always verify current attendance boundaries for the specific home you’re considering.
The schools referenced during my tour were Stuber Elementary, Reynolds Middle School, and Prosper High School. School assignments can change, so verify directly with Prosper ISD.
At the time of my tour, homes started around the mid-$700,000s and extended beyond $2 million depending on the builder, lot, size, and customization. Current pricing may be different.
Builders referenced during my tour included Highland Homes, Britton Homes, Coventry Homes, Tradition Homes, and American Legend Homes.
Amenities discussed in my tour included three resort-style pools, tennis and pickleball courts, playgrounds, walking trails, a clubhouse, event space, and community activities.
At the time of filming, I referenced approximately $1,300 per year. Buyers should verify current HOA dues and inclusions.
I referenced approximately 2.4% in this community tour. Buyers should verify the current tax rate for the exact property they’re considering.
Yes. I referenced approximately 10 minutes to Frisco during my tour, although actual drive times depend on the destination and traffic.
It can be a strong option for relocation buyers who want Prosper ISD, luxury homes, community amenities, access to Frisco, and a relatively established master-planned neighborhood.
Star Trail checks many of the boxes buyers moving to Prosper commonly ask me about.
You have luxury homes, established amenities, Prosper ISD, proximity to Frisco, Dallas North Tollway access, nearby shopping and dining, and a neighborhood that’s established enough to offer resale inventory while still having some newer construction.
That combination is important.
You’re not necessarily buying into a neighborhood where everything is still years away from being completed.
At the same time, you’re getting newer housing and access to the continued growth occurring throughout Prosper and North Frisco.
The biggest question isn’t whether Star Trail is a “good” neighborhood.
It’s whether it makes sense for you.
Compare the home, commute, schools, HOA, taxes, lot, amenities, and total monthly payment against your other options in Prosper, Frisco, and Celina.
That’s how you determine whether Star Trail is actually the right fit.
